Ⅰ. Main fabric: Core three-layer composite structure
1.Middle layer (framework layer): Diving material (SBR chloroprene rubber)
Function: Provides elasticity, cushioning, warmth retention and basic shaping. It is the core material of knee protectors.
Features: Closed-cell foam structure, good elasticity, resistant to stretching, capable of buffering impacts, and also locks in warmth for insulation. It is the most mainstream base material for this type of knee protectors.
Thickness: Typically 3-5mm. Customized thickened versions can be made according to the intensity of physical activity.
2. Outer fabric (exposed to air side): Synthetic OK fabric / OK fabric (nylon + spandex blend)
Function: Wear-resistant, anti-loose balls, enhances appearance texture, and fixes the internal structure.
Features: Matte finish with fine texture, does not shed fibers even after repeated rubbing, convenient for printing logos (as shown in the label area at the lower right corner), and is the most commonly used outer fabric for export-style knee pads.
3. Inner layer fabric (skin-contact side): Satin fabric / Satin-like fabric (polyester/cotton + spandex)
Function: Skin-friendly, anti-slip, enhances wearing comfort, prevents dampness and discomfort caused by direct contact with the rubber layer.
Features: Surface has fine short fibers, fits the skin without irritating the legs. Some models will incorporate anti-slip silicone dots (not directly shown in the picture, but common configurations for similar knee guards), to prevent sliding during exercise.
II. Materials of the Fixed and Pressurization Systems
1. Belt body: Main body of diving material / elastic nylon webbing
Function: Provides adjustable pressurized packages that fit different leg circumferences, and stabilizes the knee joint through cross-fixation.
Features: High elasticity and toughness, can be repeatedly stretched without deformation, and is cut in one piece with the main fabric to ensure overall strength.
2. Self-adhesive stickers (smooth surface + textured surface)
Function: It enables quick opening and closing as well as pressure regulation, and is a key component for this type of open-style knee guard.
Details: The end of the strap is an extruded hook surface (more durable and less prone to thread loss than ordinary nylon hooks), and the main body of the knee guard has a fuzzy surface. Even after repeated sticking, it can still maintain adhesion.
III. Functional Structure and Additives
Edge of the patellar hole: Overlock nylon webbing / Locking edge treatment
Function: Preventing burrs and loose threads at the edge of the opening, and avoiding abrasion of the patellar skin at the edge.
Process: Usually, nylon webbing is used for edge binding or high elasticity thread is used for locking the edge to ensure the opening is durable and does not deform.
2. Knee guard edge: Binding tape / Elastic stretch band
Function: Closes the opening and shapes it, preventing the edges from curling or deforming, and reducing the feeling of tightness.
Material: Mostly made of high-elastic nylon binding strips, the same color as the fabric, enhancing the overall appearance and durability.
3. Brand Logo: Embroidered Logo / Offset Printing Logo
Function: To identify brand information. The white label in the lower right corner of the picture is usually a woven label (which does not come off easily after washing) or a silicone ink print.
IV. Optional Hidden Configuration (Common in similar knee protectors, some models will be equipped with additional features)
- Silicone patellar pad: A ring of silicone strips/sheets around the opening, covering the patella and providing additional stability and cushioning.
- Metal spring support strips: Metal spring strips are embedded on both sides of the knee guard to prevent the knee joint from swaying left and right and enhance lateral support.
- Ventilation holes/net fabric: Some summer models will have holes punched in the diving material layer, or the inner layer will be replaced with breathable net fabric to improve sweat-wicking performance.
